The design INSIDE Outside is as the name suggests geared around a seamless interaction between the interior and exterior of this London house.
The garden is small alongside a large, modern building and the brief was simply ‘minimalist’. My response was centred on adaptability. The space within the garden is limited while the space within the house is extensive and this favoured a certain blurring of the boundaries between interior and exterior. The design includes a selection of plants from New Zealand that is inspired by the owner’s provenance.
The end result is that while the weather is fine, the occupation of the garden space can also acquire a part of the house as its own. On the other hand, the beauty and urban nature of the garden space can also feel at one with the interior and appreciated even during the winter months.
